Government Cuts Port Restrictions For Leather Importers, Enhances Finished Leather, Wet Blue Leather & EI Tanned Leather Trade

In a major boost to the leather industry, the Union Government has removed key procedural restrictions on the export of value-added leather products. This reform, announced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) through Notification No. 15/2025-26 dated May 26, 2026, is expected to enhance port logistics in supply chain operations and support smart port and supply chain initiatives across India. Previously, exports of Finished Leather, Wet Blue Leather, and EI Tanned Leather were restricted to designated shipping ports and freight handling terminals.
