India state on alert after ship carrying hazardous cargo capsizes

Authorities in Kerala have raised an alert after a Liberian-flagged cargo ship carrying oil and hazardous materials sank off the coast near Kochi, causing a significant environmental and logistics crisis. The incident, which occurred in the Arabian Sea on Sunday, has highlighted critical vulnerabilities in port logistics in the supply chain, especially given the region's strategic importance. The vessel was transporting 640 containers when it capsized. While all 24 crew members were safely rescued, many containers have started drifting toward the coast, raising alarms over the potential impact on local communities and marine biodiversity.
