Jammu to Mumbai cherry route begins soon

In a landmark development for supply chain management in India, the newly formed Jammu Railway Division will operate a cold-chain cargo train transporting 24 tonnes of fresh cherries from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Bandra, Mumbai in just 30 hours. This initiative signifies a major SCM innovation in India, blending efficiency, sustainability, and market reach. Traditionally plagued by delays, spoilage, and fragile road routes, fruit growers in Jammu and Kashmir can now leverage digital supply chain solutions and rail-based logistics to access distant urban markets. This move strengthens the region’s supply and chain ecosystem and showcases a scalable model for other perishable produce
